I recently received an email from Organizing for Action asking for my story on fighting voter suppression . . . here it is . . .
The recent presidential election taught me the importance of voting! Being in California I take for granted our democracy, our educational policy, environmental policy, our human rights policy. I live in a very forward thinking place and when that backwards man was elected president I was beyond shocked!!! It rocked my world ~ forced me into action . . I started researching how this happened, how people all over the country are feeling, the way the system is wired. I found frightening things, gerrymandering, corporate funding, Russia and it all started because some of us were asleep and at the local level. I started doing my homework on city, state and federal issue. I vote EVERY election. I teach my kids the importance of being educated and involved ~ it impacts their daily life! I find ways to volunteer by registering voters, helping campaign and listening to the stories in our community!
